The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin work to replace the aging westbound span of the Tensaw River Bridge on the US-90 Causeway in January 2025.
The $78.8 million project is expected to take about two years to complete.
New safer bridge and walking + bike path
Located near the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, one of the state’s most popular tourist attractions, the new replacement bridge will include:
- Dedicated pedestrian and bicycle path
- Safety upgrades
- Durable concrete structure designed to withstand the elements and improve structural integrity
According to ALDOT, construction will take place south of the current eastbound bridge, helping to minimize traffic impacts on the Causeway during the entire build process.
Limited lane closures will occur during non-peak hours, ensuring minimal disruption for daily commuters.
