There’s big news for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Alabama. The Home Depot has announced it will contribute $1 million in grants to HBCUs through its 13th annual Retool Your School program. Read on to learn more about the program, which schools are in the running and and how to vote for your favorite HBCU.
Retool Your School
Since 2009, The Home Depot Retool Your School program has provided more than $4.2 million in campus improvement grants. The grants have helped support 87 percent of the nation’s HBCUs through more than 152 campus improvement projects. These projects have ranged from creating an outdoor fitness center and gathering place for students to receiving and installing new furniture in an on-campus library.
Schools in the running
Currently, there are several colleges and universities around the state in the running with HBCUs nationwide to receive one of 30 grants ranging from $20K to $75K per school.

- Oakwood University
- Talladega College
