Looking for a fun way to explore new parts of Alabama? You’re in luck. Across the state, community leaders and volunteers will guide free tours through historical areas throughout the month of April.

30 free April walking tours across Alabama

It’s no secret that Alabama is home to some world-class trails, including the famous Pinhoti National Recreation Trail ending on Flagg Mountain. However, there are more than just hiking trails in Alabama—and there’s no better way to learn more than with the 2025 April Walking tours.

Promoted by the Alabama Tourism Department, the 2025 April Walking tours are free, guided tours through historical areas displaying the art and culture of each host city—plus, some end with refreshments at popular local establishments!

Each tour will be roughly two hours long, starting at 10AM. Tour dates are: Saturday, April 5; Saturday, April 12; Saturday, April 19; and Saturday, April 26.

  • Athens-Limestone County – Athens Limestone Visitors Center/Big Spring Memorial Park, 100 N. Beaty St. 
  • Bayou La Batre – Maritime Park, 13765 S Wintzell Ave.
  • Birmingham – Fred Shuttlesworth statue, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, 520 16th St. N (April 19 ONLY)
  • Bridgeport – Bridgeport Depot Museum, 116 Soulard Square
  • Courtland – Courtland Square at Gazebo (April 19 ONLY)
  • Cullman – Cullman County Museum, 211 2nd Ave. NE
  • Elba – Elba Chamber of Commerce, 345 Davis St.
