In case you didn’t mark it on your calendar, Wednesday, April 7th is National Beer Day! What better way to celebrate than by visiting some of Auburn & Opelika’s favorite local craft breweries? We highlighted 5 great places to grab a drink + our top picks at each.

1. Red Clay Brewing Co.

Located in historic downtown Opelika, Red Clay Brewing Company has been a local favorite since they opened in 2015. The brewery is named for the distinctive southern clay in the area, and each of their specially-made brews come with a bit of a history lesson. We recommend trying the Big Swamp Stout in honor of the very meaning of the word, Opelika.

2. Resting Pulse Brewing Co.

Come to this brewing company is order to fully relax and find your resting pulse! Resting Pulse Brewing Company is a wonderful place to grab some local craft beer in downtown Opelika. With great outside seating and a wide open indoor space, there is room for everyone here. Plus, they have plenty of foods perfectly meant to pair with their beer. We recommend that you order an Opa Liken Lime beer to take in this warm spring weather and enjoy beautiful downtown Opelika.

3. Whistle Stop Bottle & Brew

Whistle Stop Bottle & Brew is also located in downtown Opelika’s Historic District. This is an easy place to stop by and grab a craft beer or a 6 pack to-go. They have a huge selection of home brews, plus a fun atmosphere to sit and enjoy some brews inside or out. Our top pick for Whistle Stop right now is their Toucan Slam IPA.

4. Auburn Draft House

Auburn Draft House is in the heart downtown Auburn and definitely a fan favorite amongst the students. They have fun daily specials and a weekly schedule with trivia and bingo. This is right around the corner from Toomer’s Drugs, so make a quick trip to visit both! The Auburn Draft House has dozens of craft beers to choose from, but we recommend the Ghost Train Kaleidoscope Kettle Sour, which is brewed in Birmingham, AL.

5. John Emerald Distilling Co.

This small batch craft distillery makes many in house spirits, but they also brew their very own John Emerald Distillery beers. It is a family owned and operated business with a southern feel. You can walk in and ask for a tour of the place, or sign up for a fun bottling party! JED is also connected to The Railyard venue which often has live music and events. For the best expereince here, we recommend that you ask the bartender about their beer selection at the time.

Beer can bring people together in a special way, and it is always cool to explore what is out there in your town. Go take yourself and some friends out to celebrate National Beer Day in the Auburn-Opelika area!
