The numbers are in and Alabama ranks #6 in states with the thriftiest residents. That’s according to a study by Coupons 4 Real, which analyzed the number of times thrifting-relating keywords were searched and grouped those searches by state.
Alabama ranks just shy of the top five, which includes:
- Oregon
- Colorado
- Idaho
- North Carolina
- Florida
Since y’all seem to love getting thrifty, we’ve rounded up six of our favorite shops for you to check out.
Mom’s | Florence
Mom’s at Seven Points in Florence is a perfectly perky vintage shop. It’s packed to the gills with adorable memorabilia, gifts, clothes, souvenirs and so much more.

Roland’s Thrift Store | Opelika
Cozy, funky and eclectic is how we’d describe Roland’s Thrift Store. It’s still run by Roland himself, who frequently posts photos of himself in the shop with his grand and great-grandchildren onto an album titled “Sweet Baby Shoppers.”

Penelope’s Closet | Mobile
Penelope’s Closet is a thrift and consignment shop just outside Midtown Mobile. All profits benefit Penelope House, a domestic violence women’s shelter.
The shop has a huge variety of clothing for women and children of all ages and sizes—plus some cute accessories and toys, too.

Sozo Trading Co. | Birmingham
Upscale thrifting that supports a good cause? That’s what the team at Sozo offers the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham. The huge shop has unique secondhand finds, vendor booths, handmade art and so much more.
Proceeds from here benefit the Sozo Children, a local charity that provides Ugandan children with essentials.
