August is National Peach Month—here’s how to celebrate in Alabama

National Peach Month is here, and we’ve found the best places in Alabama for you to celebrate this delicious fruit. From pies and ice cream to fresh off the tree, Alabama is serving up some peachy dishes sure to please your palate.

1. Peach Park in Clanton

Every Alabama native knows that no trip through Clanton is complete without a pit-stop at Peach Park. Fresh veggies, produce, pies, ice cream and, of course, all the peaches you could ever want await you through the doors of this southern market.

Their peach cheesecake ice cream is worth a trip in-of-itself, but you’ll also want to try the peach fried pies while you’re there. These pies made the list of 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die, so you know they are incredible.

Don’t leave without grabbing a wicker basket full of the fresh fruit, and since its National Peach Month, there’s no better time then now to get your fill of it.

2. Mountain View Orchards in Jemison

Talk about farm to table, at Mountain View Orchards you know you’re getting peaches straight from the tree. How? Because it will literally be growing right in front of you. With rows of peach and apples trees surrounding this adorable market, you’ll find yourself in fresh fruit heaven.

Grab a basket of peaches, say hello to their resident goats and save room for lunch because their chicken salad is legendary.

They are a currently harvesting Early August Prince, August Prince and Flame Prince peaches, but check out their Facebook page to see daily picks and upcoming events.

3. Durbin Farms Market in Clanton

Lining up another Chilton County staple known for the best peaches around, we have Durbin Farms Market. Their peach cobbler is a must-try for first time visitors, and if you’re in the mood for a splurge, top it with a scoop of homemade ice cream. They have over 24 flavors to choose from, with the fresh peach being the main attraction.

Their market also carries fun items like home decor, jarred goods, gift items and collegiate collection, so happy shopping.

4. Toomer’s Drug’s in Auburn

Toomer’s lemonade is an Auburn classic that we all know and love, but I bet you’ve never tried their peach flavor. A slight twist on their original, the peach lemonade is like sipping on summer.

So, next time you make a trip up to the Plains be sure to stop by Toomer’s Drug’s and try a taste.

5. Big Spoon Creamery in Birmingham

If you’re a Birmingham native or taking a trip into town this season, you’ve got to try Big Spoon Creamery’s Peach Buttermilk ice cream. Their handmade peach sorbet, made with our local Chilton County peaches, is swirled with buttermilk ice cream to make this perfect sweet summer treat.

Try this flavor as a milkshake, malt or float too if you want to mix it up.
