We all know that Auburn & Opelika are full of amazing businesses. From restaurants, to nightlife, and shopping, we really have it all. But, there is something very special to me about a good ole local family owned business. So, we have found and highlighted 5 mom-and-pop businesses to support in Auburn and Opelika!

1. Smith T’s

  • Location: 812 North Railroad Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801
  • Contact: 334.745.4618 | Website | Facebook

Winston Smith T Building Supply has been serving Auburn and Opelika for over 80 years now. It is family owned and operated (the sweetest family, at that), so you know you are always getting reliable service. It is in Historic Downtown Opelika and holds the oldest known original, untouched coke sign. People travel from all over to get their eyes on the right wall of Smith T’s!

2. Toomer’s Drugs

Toomer’s Drugs is one of Auburn’s oldest traditions, since 1896. Sheldon Toomer, the halfback on Auburn’s first football team, started the pharmacy after graduating. They have the best lemonade you will ever come across (I promise) and great food too!

3. Bizilia’s Cafe

  • Location: 134 North College Street, Auburn, AL 36830
  • Contact: 334.826.0080 | Website | Facebook

This cute little café in downtown Auburn will give you all the good old time feels. It has the best sandwiches in town (no doubt) and that home-cooked meal tastes just like home. Bizilia’s definitely needs to be on your list of small businesses to support in Auburn!

4. Mrs. Story’s Dairy Bar

  • Location: 1900 Pepperell Pkwy, Opelika, AL 36801
  • Contact: 334.749.1719

This tiny building may not look like much, but it sure does mean a lot. Mrs. Story’s Dairy Bar holds a special place in the hearts of those from Auburn & Opelika. They have been the master of milkshakes (I get butterfinger) and all things dairy since 1952! Plus, they have the best chili dogs around.

5. J&M Bookstore

J&M Bookstore has been an Auburn classic since 1953. If you’re coming to Auburn, you have got to stop by here and look around. This is the place to get your books, auburn gear, school supplies, and more. They are local, friendly, and been there through it all as a part of Auburn’s history.

Get out there and go support local small business in your community!
