After a star-studded, two-night season finale of The Voice, a champion was finally crowned on live TV Tuesday night.

Selma native Asher HaVon finished in the top spot, becoming the first Alabamian to ever win the competition. He was the fourth person from Alabama to make it to the finale with the first three all finishing in third place during their respective seasons.

He becomes the second Alabamian this week to win a national TV competition. Monday night, Opelika’s Bryson McGlynn won MasterChef Junior.

The finale

During the first night of the finale, each contestant got to sing two solo songs.

Havon’s first choice was Last Dance by Donna Summer, performing the disco song on a platform surrounded by dancers on roller skates. The performance was enough to get John Legend out of his chair and dance along from the coaches’ tables.

The Selma native did not hold anything back during the final show of the season, taking on one of the most vocally challenging songs out there for his second song. But he delivered in the big moments and got plenty of praise from the judges.

HaVon sang Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You in the final performance of Monday’s live show. You can watch some of that performance below.

The season that started back in February came to an end Tuesday night with multiple performances highlighting the finale before the champion was revealed. There were special guest appearances from former coaches Kelly Clarkson, CeeLo Green, Niall Horan, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Jonas, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Gwen Stefani.

Other performances over the two-night event included:

  • The Black Keys
  • Jelly Roll
  • Kate Hudson
  • Lainey Wilson
  • Muni Long
  • Thomas Rhett
  • Gina Miles

HaVon also got one more chance to perform on the stage, singing with his coach Reba McEntire.
