City of Auburn opens latest phase of new $37M recreation center [PHOTOS]

The highly-anticipated Lake Wilmore Recreation Center in Auburn has opened up more facilities to the public.
Monday, March 17 signaled the official opening for another phase of the city project that was budgeted at $37 million. The latest openings include a gymnasium with an elevated indoor track, a pool and a fitness center.

Lake Wilmore Recreation Center




This new recreation + community center is located off Grove Hill Road in south Auburn. There are still future phases of the project to be completed.
Once it is all said and done, the facility will include:
- 2 full-sized basketball courts
- Locker rooms
- 2 activity rooms
- Fitness center with equipment
- 2 multi-use/fitness studios
- Elevated indoor walking track
- Indoor concessions
- Zero-entry pool
- Lap pool
- Multi-use/party room
- Offices and conference room
Work is still being done to the area around the facility which will include covered pickleball courts, multipurpose fields + biking trails.
The city is offering a one-time free trial for Auburn residents and people who work in Auburn between March 17–31. The current hours for the center are:
- Rec Center Hours (beginning March 17):
- Mon-Thurs: 6AM – 9PM
- Fri: 6AM – 6PM
- Sat: 8AM – 12PM
- Sun: 1PM – 6PM
- Pool Hours (Open Swim Only):
- Mon, Wed, Fri: 6 – 10:30AM + 2 – 4:30PM
- Tues, Thurs: 6 – 10:30AM
- Fri: 6 – 10:30AM & 2 – 5PM
- Sat: 8 – 11:30AM
- Sun: 1 – 5:30PM

This facility is part of Auburn’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Master Plan from 2018 which provides a 20-year plan to improve the quality of the city’s parks, recreation, arts and cultural programming, library, greenspace/greenways, trails, facilities, landscape and natural features.
