CLOSING: Rue 21 to shutter all Alabama locations soon
Reading time: 2 minutes
An icon of mall crawling, Rue 21, has announced it will officially shutter all 540 U.S. locations after filing for Bankruptcy for the third time. Keep reading for a low-down of which locations will be leaving the Yellowhammer State shortly—and where you can catch those “going out of business” sales.
Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Earlier this month, reps for Rue 21 filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, again. The store filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and 2017.
Just 7 years ago, the company cut its number of brick-and-mortar stores almost in half, shuttering 400 locations. But the company struggled to gain footing again, especially during the pandemic. At its peak, the company operated nearly 1,000 stores in malls and shopping centers around the U.S.
Now, the remaining 540 locations will close for good, including 12 storefronts in Alabama.
