Expect West Alabama I-20/59 road work delays: What travelers need to know
Reading time: 1 minute

If you are traveling west from Tuscaloosa to Mississippi on I-20/59, be prepared for some delays.
This week, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced plans to resurface and place guardrails on a portion of I-20/59 in Greene County from near milepost 33 to near Exit 41 in Eutaw.
The road work at the Eutaw Exit is coincidentally approximately 30+ miles in each direction from the University of West Alabama and the University of Alabama.
According to ALDOT, the project, which began last week, will last until late 2025, weather permitting. At least one lane will remain open in each direction throughout the project.

Be careful within work zones
Be extra careful while driving within the work zones. Last year, there were 15 fatalities and 527 injuries in work zones in Alabama.
Even though the number of fatalities in 2024 was the lowest in a decade, the number is way too high. One good way to be prepared for work zones is to receive real-time traffic updates and more. Download the ALGOTraffic app or visit ALGOTraffic.com today.
