If you showed up to Baumhower’s in Tuscaloosa expecting to have a quiet Wednesday night dinner, you quickly discovered your plans were about to change.

The lobby of the restaurant was packed before 5PM as Crimson Tide fans gathered for the season’s first edition of the “Hey Coach Show” hosted by Chris Stewart on the Crimson Tide Sports Network. It was standing room only by the time the show started as Kalen DeBoer got his first taste of the fanbase’s gameweek excitement.

Keep reading to see what he talked about this week + how you can catch the next show at Baumhower’s.

The fans arrived well before the coach did but they waited patiently and paid attention throughout the night to see what DeBoer had to say about a variety of topics.

The show included time for fans to get on the microphone or call in to the show to ask the coach questions or just give him a nice “Roll Tide and good luck” shout before the season opener. DeBoer got to talk several things including:

  • Adjusting to Alabama weather
  • Replacing Nick Saban
  • Season opener against Western Kentucky
  • Jalen Milroe in the new offense

If you missed it, you can still watch the full show on Facebook.

During the commercial breaks, DeBoer spent time getting out in the crowd to meet the fans and sign autographs, going table to table.

DeBoer also joked that Wednesday night got to serve as some time with his family as his wife and daughters were in attendance, sitting in the center of the room near the stage.

Jalen Milroe appearance

Players will often join the crew throughout the season but fans who attended the first show got to a special treat when Jalen Milroe arrived.

He walked in the door while DeBoer was still on air but plenty of people in the crowd started cheering for their starting quarterback. Once Milroe sat down, the fans quieted down and listened, especially when he was asked why he chose to stay for another year with the Crimson Tide.

Milroe spoke about wanting to build from last season’s unfinished business but he also spoke on his academic career, graduating in three years and now chasing a master’s degree.
