Muscle Shoals announces new $65 million multi-use development

The City of Muscle Shoals will soon be home to a new 66-acre, multi-use facility expected to cost $65 million.
An announcement was made Monday and the city unveiled a first look at some of the renderings for the facility. The city said the hopes are for Monday’s announcement to be the first of two phases. Engineering and design work is expected to begin immediately.

What to know about the new development
The 66-acre sit is expected to include multi-sport athletic fields and a complex with the ability to host indoor and outdoor events. The city hopes to bring more regional tournaments to the area.

The renderings made available Monday show the facilities would include:
- INDOOR
- 6 basketball courts
- 12 volleyball courts
- Concessions
- Locker rooms
- Offices/multi-purpose rooms
- Restrooms
- OUTDOOR
- 8 youth baseball/softball fields
- 10 youth soccer/lacrosse/football fields
- 6 full size soccer/lacrosse/football fields
- 16 pickleball courts
- 10 tennis courts
- Walking track
The outdoor area will also include an amphitheater that is expected to seat around 1,000 people.
There will also be a major retail development that the city said is central to the concept of the athletic facilities. That development is not included in the $65 million budget.
There is currently no exact date for a groundbreaking or for completion of the project.
Goodwyn Mills and Cawood
