NEW: $350M mixed-use beachside resort development coming to Northport

A new mixed-use development promising a new standard for entertainment, hospitality and luxury living was recently approved for the city of Northport, Alabama. Dubbed University Beach, the development will be just minutes away from the University of Alabama, the Tuscaloosa National Airport and the new River Run Park.

Described as, “an entertainment, hospitality, dining, shopping and residential destination designed for the beach lover in all of us,” University Beach is a recently-announced mixed-use development from Texas developers Kent Donahue and John Hughes of University Beach, LLC.

The proposal passed just last night in a 4-1 vote of the Northport City Council.

“This project represents a $350 million dollar investment, one of the single largest mixed-use developments in our region, that will produce numerous jobs, new tourism, and be a positive economic engine in Northport for generations to come.”

Located along Highway 82 near Harper Road in Northport, the University Beach development will be centered around 10 acres of pristine turquoise water and white sand beaches. The nearby Beach Club will offer a variety of activities, including swimming, surfing and beach volleyball.

In addition to the water feature, University Beach will feature a dynamic water park with thrilling attractions and activities for all ages and abilities, including:

Guests enjoying University Beach can stay at the development’s 130-room boutique beachfront hotel, which features an infinity pool, a state-of-the-art fitness facility, concierge services and more. Don’t want the fun to end? University Beach will offer 64 custom beach homes with direct access to a private resident beach.

Finally, the University Beach development will include a retail boardwalk lined with quaint cafes and retail establishments.
