NEW: UA golfer Nick Dunlap becomes youngest amateur to win on PGA Tour in 100+ years
Reading time: 3 minutes
Just five months after University of Alabama golfer Nick Dunlap became a U.S. Amateur Champion, he’s accomplished something even more incredible: he’s become the youngest amateur to win on the PGA Tour since 1910 and the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour since 1991. Keep reading for all the details on his latest big win.
Nick Dunlap’s big win on the PGA Tour
On Sunday evening, January 21, Nick Dunlap finished the 72-hole American Express at 29-under par 259 (64-65-60-70). With that, the 20-year-old golfer became a PGA Tour Champion. According to a post made by the PGA Tour, “He’s the youngest amateur to win since 1910.”
Due to his amateur status, Dunlap won’t be taking home the prize money (a staggering $1.5 million). However, according to UA Athletics, he did earn PGA TOUR membership through the 2026 and exemptions into all 2024 Signature Events, including the Masters and PGA Championship.
“This is like nothing I’ve ever felt. It’s so cool to just be out here and experience this as an amateur. Whether I made or missed that last putt, if you told me Wednesday night that come (Sunday) I’d have a putt to win this golf tournament – it’s just unbelievable.

More on Nick Dunlap
With this win, Nick Dunlap adds another impressive feat to his long list.
The sophomore at the University of Alabama was homeschooled, and started making big impressions early on in his golfing career.
In middle school, Dunlap set the course record at Birmingham’s Highland Golf Club—and he’s been on a roll ever since. Here are just some of the impressive wins he had even before he joined the Crimson Tide, according to the University of Alabama:
- 73rd Alabama Boys State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association in July of 2018
- 2021 Dustin Johnson World Junior Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
- AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic in 2022
After being Golfweek’s No. 1 junior golfer in the class of 2022, Dunlap has continued to make a name for himself on the Crimson Tide team. Here’s what he’s accomplished so far:
- U.S. Amateur Champion
- 61st Northeast Amateur title in June 2023
- 123rd North & South Amateur championship title in June 2023
- Named SEC Freshman of the Week in 2023—twice
Now, he can add PGA Tour Champion to that list.
Not only is Dunlap a standout golfer, he’s also a standout student as a member of the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll. His achievements in both the classroom and on the golf course have garnered a lot of attention, and we have a feeling he’s just getting started.
After the big win, the PGA Tour’s Instagram has filled with fun moments from Nick Dunlap’s PGA Tour journey—his caddie’s comment before his winning stroke (“Your mom could make this putt”), his family group hug afterwards, how many phone notifications he had and much more. We’re happy to add to the flood of congratulations, Nick.
