Wetumpka opens new restaurant

Since its big debut on HGTV’s Home Town Takeover back in 2020, Wetumpka has continued its revitalization, seeing cute boutiques, tasty eateries and more popping up regularly.

On Tuesday, September 12, the town gained another restaurant with the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Yamato Japanese Steak House. Located on Highway 231, the new biz has been booming with a consistent flow of excited customers. 

“Yamamoto’s is owned by Kevin Chen. He is a very successful restauranteur who owns many restaurants in the Atlanta area as well as in Mississippi. All the reviews have been wonderful since they opened, and the parking lot is FULL!”

Now for the best part—the menu.

When you visit, you can expect a variety of choices from appetizers like spring rolls and edamame for under $5 to Hibachi Dinners ranging from $10.49 to $29.95. 

My menu choice—a  Bento Box. There are several worthwhile Bento options like Chicken Tempura, Steak and Sushi—all served with soup, salad, a spring roll, two dumplings and fried rice.

Be sure to order food for the kids. For 12 and under, there are three types of Hibachi—chicken, shrimp and steak (each under $10). 

When dining out, I usually skip dessert, but upon skimming Yamato’s sweet menu, I’m tempted to say “yes, please!” With items like friend cheesecake and fried Oreo cookies, who could say no?
