NOW OPEN: The Coffee Shop in Opelika—discover the unique backstory

The Coffee Shop
Welcome to Opelika, The Coffee Shop. (Opelika Chamber / Facebook)

You know we love a good coffee spot, and The Coffee Shop recently opened at 122 S 8th Street in historic Downtown Opelika. Read on to discover what they have brewing.

The Coffee Shop start

Minimalist Coffee Co
Coffee on wheels. (Minimalist Coffee Company, LLC)

The Coffee Shop is an extension of Minimalist Coffee Company, an idea that started as a mobile café out of a school bus. Gleason Jones created the company in hopes of serving the best possible flavors, all locally roasted. The brand radiates minimalistic ideas, following a beautiful black and white color scheme.

Jones reinvented the school bus into a café on wheels and launched the brand in 2021. From learning to perfect his coffee in California to recently opening a storefront in Opelika, Jones, with the help of his fiancé Savannah, has turned a dream into a reality.

The Grand Opening

Full house for the grand opening. (Opelika Chamber / Facebook)

On Monday, March 21, community members as well as Opelika’s Chamber of Commerce gathered for the grand opening of The Coffee Shop. The brick and mortar storefront is settled in the heart of the historic city, neighboring notable Opelika staples such as Cakeitecture Bakery and Café 123.

Keep up with the brand for exciting things to come:

Coffee. Smile. Laugh. Repeat.

The Coffee Shop plants small happies on every drink served. Each latte or refresher encourages customers with quotes like “be kind,” “keep life fun” and “mindset is everything.” The best part? Each flavor is tied to a good cause. For example, their “Golden Hour” ground coffee is named after their two golden retrievers and supports the Lee County Humane Society.

Coffee with a purpose? We’re here for it.
