Pro hockey returning to Mobile as city set to welcome SPHL team

Alabama will soon be home to three franchises in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) as the league recently announced expansion plans.
It has been more than two decades since the Mobile Mysticks played their final season in the ECHL, which was the last time the city of Mobile hosted a professional hockey team.
The sport will return in 2027 with a new team that will play in the $300 million Mobile Civic Center currently under construction.

We will aim to place a competitive team on the ice while also providing a fun, family-friendly product both in the stands and in the community. We look forward to ushering in this new era of hockey in the city’s brand-new arena.”

The new team will join the same league that features the Birmingham Bulls + Huntsville Havoc.
