For fans of the MLB The Show video game franchise, this moment has been highly anticipated since the Rickwood Field game was announced last year.

The oldest active professional ballpark in the country will now be available to play at as a part of a new game mode in The Show. The classic ballpark plays a role in re-living some major moments from Willie Mays’ early career.

Keep reading to see more of Birmingham’s historic field in the video game + find out how you can play.

No sneak peek at new look

While Rickwood has been added to the game, it appears to be the old stadium as opposed to any renovations being made. This could change after the field is displayed during this week’s games as the video game franchise also included the Field of Dreams stadium after the MLB game in 2021.

It may not be the updated stadium but the game captures the historic parts of Rickwood Field including:

  • Scoreboard
  • Right field seats
  • Players sitting on top of dugouts
  • Fence behind home plate

This year’s game is available on Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo platforms. Rickwood Field is expected to be available to play in the Play Now game mode but you can play the Negro Leagues Storyline in Diamond Dynasty.

“We’re dropping a very special Storyline on June 20th celebrating the career of Willie Mays and the majesty of Rickwood Field. Throughout the storyline, you’ll have opportunities to unlock special rewards such as Rickwood Field, a pair of Birmingham Black Barons uniforms, icons, bat skins and young Willie Mays.”
