Clay-Chalkville Cougars
Just three weeks ago, Clay-Chalkville got one of the biggest non-region wins of the season when they went to Alabaster to take down Thompson. Now, the Cougars are looking for what could be the biggest region win so far this season.
The program has not missed a beat under new coach Stuart Floyd. Clay-Chalkville has won 21 consecutive games, including the 6A state championship last season.
The Cougars have won three consecutive region titles as well, defeating Oxford in each of the last two seasons. In fact, Clay-Chalkville leads the all-time series 14-5 which includes six straight regular season wins.
Oxford Yellow Jackets
While Clay-Chalkville is used to this success, Oxford has been waiting for this year to arrive. The Yellow Jackets fielded a very young roster the last couple of seasons but that experience is culminating at the right time—and it’s paying off for coach Sam Adams.
In the five seasons before Adams arrived in Oxford, the program won 67 games and a state championship. However, the coach has not had a 10-win season with the Yellow Jackets yet.
The community and the program was patient though and it seems to be paying off in a big way. Oxford has won its first seven games for the first time since 2019—the last time they won a state title.
Quarterback Mason Mims is a Louisville commit and he has been playing like he’s ready for the next level.
