Located at the southeast corner of Highways 181 and 104 in Fairhope, the Mapp Family Campus is a huge deal for Baldwin County residents. Since around 50% of Baldwin County residents live within 15 miles of the campus, the Mapp Family Campus helps make USA Health available without a trip across the bay.

Once completed, the campus will host two main facilities: the ambulatory surgical center and the physicians’ office building.

“As the only academic healthcare system in the region, USA Health continues to expand relationships with community providers and other partners, as we strive to provide increased access to the care that people need and deserve.”

Owen Bailey, MHA, FACHE, chief executive officer of USA Health.

Breaking ground was a big step for the 2-year, $30M construction plan. When completed, the campus will host two main facilities: the ambulatory surgical center and the physicians’ office building.

“The Mapp Family Campus will be another important location for educating and training the next generation of healthcare providers. Having this additional site will help USA Health try to alleviate some of the healthcare provider shortages we are facing.”

John Marymont, M.D., MBA, vice president for medical affairs at the University of South Alabama and dean of the College of Medicine.

The ambulatory surgical center is planned as a 25,000 sq.ft. building full of advanced surgical equipment like a Mako robotic arm, which aids physicians in joint replacements. Some specialties housed in the ambulatory surgical center will be:

  • Pediatrics
  • Orthopedics
  • Urology
  • General surgery
  • Gastroenterology
  • Earn, Nose, & Throat

As for the physician office building, that 50,000 sq.ft. facility is designed to bring comprehensive healthcare to Fairhope and the Baldwin County community. It will host some of the following offices and specialties:

  • Neurology
  • Cardiology
  • Surgical specialties for pediatric and adult gastroenterology & urology
  • Full imaging services like X-Ray, MRI, CT, mammography, and ultrasound

More than just medicine

In an effort to promote healthy lifestyle to the Baldwin County community, resources are also being devoted to an educational center, complete with a demonstration kitchen. Here, there will be classes in nutrition, exercise, and everyday healthy habits to aid residents in leader longer, healthier lives.

This project couldn’t have happened without contributions from the Mapp family, who donated the 8 acres of land that make up the campus.

Check out the video below to see the full plan.

Construction is scheduled to complete in 2023 and will create more than 100 jobs for the Baldwin County area.
