What’s new & coming soon in Auburn

If you live in Auburn, you’ve probably noticed all the recent construction around the downtown area. Keep reading for a list of new openings and what’s coming soon to the plains!

1. The Yard Milkshake Bar

A recent addition to the College Street landscape, The Yard is the perfect new spot to satisfy your sweet tooth. Ice cream, edible cookie dough and a menu of elaborate specialty pint-sized milkshakes— this place is sure to become a downtown hot spot. This location is now open, so make sure to stop by and try their Auburn exclusive “Get Your Roll On”– a cookie dough shake with blue and orange marshmallow drizzle topped with whipped cream, a cake pop and a Toomer’s Corner inspired white chocolate pretzel rolled tree.

2. Target

As part of a recent retail and housing development on North College Street, Auburn will soon become home to a downtown Target. In addition to Target, the building will also house 32 two-bed, two-bath apartments on the remaining floors. The projected 55-foot building, located between Five Guys and the Wright Street parking deck, is set to open by Spring 2023.

3. The Laurel Hotel & Spa

As part of the new Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, The Laurel Hotel and Spa is a luxury hotel featuring a spa, rooftop pool and yoga pavilion. In addition to offering a luxe experience for guests, The Laurel will serve as a place for Auburn hospitality students to gain valuable experience and cut their teeth in luxury hotel management operations. Can’t wait to book your room? The Laurel is set to open August 29 and is now accepting reservations on their website.

4. Publix

Coming soon to South Gay Street, Auburn will finally become home to a downtown grocery store. Located in the lot that formerly housed Burger King, the new retail development will provide a walkable and convenient location for students and downtown residents. Set to open in Fall 2022, Publix will be the first national retail chain to open its doors in downtown Auburn.

5. AuburnBank

AuburnBank’s new main office, a massive four-story, 91,000 square foot building, is now open on the corner of East Magnolia Avenue and North Gay Street. The first AuburnBank location opened its doors in 1907 near Toomer’s Corner and remains one of Auburn’s oldest business firms. As well as the bank, the development will include significant retail space and a large parking deck to accommodate Auburn’s growing population.
