11 new million-dollar-plus construction permits approved in Alabama, May 17th

We’ve got the inside scoop on 11 new million-dollar-plus construction permits awarded to contractors in Alabama last week, including the remodeling of the new Shipt Tower in downtown Birmingham. 1. Buffalo Rock remodeling Lakeshore Facility
- Project Cost: $1,195,903

In late 2020, we learned that Buffalo Rock Company was planning a $75M expansion of their Birmingham operations. That year, Buffalo Rock Company spent $39.2M to acquire 850,000 square-feet of warehouse space at 400 Industrial Drive, Birmingham, AL 35211, as well as 120,000-square-feet of office space at the neighboring 800 Lakeshore Parkway. The warehouse & office building will serve as a new distribution center for the company, creating up to 50 new jobs.
Before Buffalo Rock moves into their new home, the company has hired Hoar Program Management (HPM) to oversee the renovation of both the warehouse and office building. Once complete, the distribution center will include state-of-the-art technology, including a $20M Vertique System that transports products throughout the facility on an automated, high-speed four-lane distribution rack.
2. Shipt remodeling former Wells Fargo Tower
- Project Cost: $3,000,000

- Contractor/Builder: Wiggins Building Corporation
Shipt is once again teaming up with the Wiggins Building Corporation to renovate & build out their new offices in the former Wells Fargo Tower in downtown Birmingham. The Vestavia Hills-based Wiggins Building Corp. has worked with Shipt since 2014, when the company built out offices in the John Hand Building.
Shipt will be expanding their presence in downtown Birmingham by occupying a total of 60,000 square-feet of office space in the renamed Shipt Tower. As part of the project, Shipt will be renovating 17,000 square feet on the tenth floor of the tower.
