For the first time in 27 years, there is a new name on top of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) record book for career rushing yards.

Elba High School’s Alvin Henderson helped his team to a win over Florala in their final regular season game, rushing for 199 yards and four touchdowns. That performance was enough to help himself surpass Alexandria’s Mac Campbell, adding to the long list of categories Henderson leads in the state record books.

Keep reading to learn more about Henderson’s historic career + what other marks he could still break before the end of the season.

Alvin Henderson

There aren’t always a lot of eyes on Class 1A football in Alabama but Alvin Henderson has brought plenty of attention to his games over the past four years. The Auburn commit set multiple state records in a four-overtime game earlier this year.

If you go to search the AHSAA records, Henderson’s name officially comes up 46 times, a number likely to climb even higher in the next update. He now tops the list in 14 categories including:

  • 9 rushing TDs in a game
  • 60 total points in a game
  • 69 total touchdowns in a season
  • 3,523 rushing yards in a season
  • 408 points in a season
  • 33 consecutive games with a touchdown
  • 178 career rushing touchdowns
  • 1,162 career points

Friday night, Henderson broke one more record. He now has 9,935 rushing yards in his high school career, which tops Mac Campbell’s previous record by just under 100 yards.

During his career, Henderson has averaged 13.4 yards per carry and 191.1 yards per game.

What’s next?

Fans in Auburn are waiting for more offensive fire power to arrive but before Henderson gets to campus, he’s got a goal to bring Elba its fifth state championship in program history. The Tigers have not claimed a blue map since 2015.

Henderson is also chasing his own individual season records of 69 total touchdowns and 3,523 rushing yards. Elba would likely have to make a deep run in the playoffs for Henderson to have a shot at reaching either of those marks again.

After the high school season ends, Henderson will represent Elba and the state of Alabama in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game on Dec. 14.
