Horseshoe Bend National Military Park increases attendance for the  3rd year in a row

The number of visitors to the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park near Alexander City increased in 2023.

Site of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, the location which is on a bend of the Tallapoosa River, was the final conflict in the Creek War of 1813-14.

The battle marked the defeat of the Red Stick Creeks by forces led by Gen. Andrew Jackson.

The park was established by an act of Congress and President Eisenhower in the late 1950s

According to recently released National Park Service visitation numbers, the 2,040-acre park has steadily increased visits since 2020.

Here are the annual visitor numbers since 2018.

  • 2018 — 48,491
  • 2019 — 45,372
  • 2020 — 28,600
  • 2021 — 58,285
  • 2022—  67,773
  • 2023 — 72,725

Located in Daviston, Alabama, Horseshoe Bend NMP has welcomed over 5 million visitors since 1960.

The site is open year-round except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The visitor Center is open from 9:00Am to 4:30PM.
