Kobay South Oxford expansion tops new high-dollar building permits

Six new building permits were issued this past week across Alabama for construction projects exceeding $1 million. These permits included projects in the Birmingham metro, Tuscaloosa metro, Opelika and Oxford.

A plant expansion by Kobay in Oxford led the way as far as total cost of this week’s permits.

Kobay Oxford’s 54,000-square-foot expansion

Automotive supplier Kobay South, a producer of stamped metal vehicle parts for the automotive industry, is nearly doubling the size of its Oxford plant, adding 54,000 square feet to the facility.

In addition to more space, the expansion will also add 50 new jobs to the plant.

This is the second major industrial expansion in Oxford announced in the past month as Associated MetalCast announced a $6.24 million upgrade to its two facilities and the addition of 50 jobs in March.

A $4 million building permit for the project was approved for Pat Kirk General Contractor.
