Alabama lovers of music, rejoice. Earlier today, Huntsville dropped a major promo video on YouTube showcasing the upcoming Huntsville Amphitheater. The project, which has been in development since 2017, is officially slated to open in 2022. Here are all the details.
An Investment in Huntsville’s Music Scene
With its proximity to the famous Muscle Shoals music scene, it makes sense for Huntsville to have a world-class performing arts venue. The Huntsville Amphitheater project has been under development for several years, picking up traction and excitement in the community. In October 2020, the Huntsville City Council officially approved the plans to construct a gorgeous amphitheater near the city’s MidCity development.
“This facility will help us grow our music and culture economy. It will allow us to become a community of curators, where we can develop our own creative content, unique to Huntsville, that we can share globally. In addition to arts festivals, markets, and world-famous musicians, we’ll be able to incubate our own talent, showing that our next great entrepreneurs don’t all have to be in space and missile defense.”

Here are the Details
For lovers of live music in the Madison County region, the Huntsville Amphitheater solves a serious issue. For years, large music acts that wanted to perform in the area were unable to—there was simply not a venue big enough!
Once the Huntsville Amphitheater opens in 2022, the facility will be ready to host amazing concerts and seat upwards of 8,000 guests. In addition, the accompanying food village will be the perfect spot for farmer’s markets and other large-scale gatherings throughout the year.
In terms of design and architecture, the Huntsville Amphitheater is unlike anything you’ve seen built—at least in this millennium. The open-air venue is reminiscent of a Classical Roman amphitheater, as timeless as it is beautiful.
What’s Next?
Preliminary construction of the $40M venue began in late 2020, funded by the City of Huntsville. Involved in the project are Birmingham-based contractor Robins & Morton and architects Matheny Goldmon and David M. Schwarz. In the next few months, residents of Huntsville can expect to see the amphitheater start to take shape. The venue is slated to open sometime in 2022.
Once complete, the Huntsville Amphitheater will help the city land big-name music acts, be a home for hundreds of community events and provide hundreds of jobs to the area.
