New hotel could be coming to Gadsden

The city council said project discussions have been in the works for several months but the city recently struck an initial agreement with a developer for a new Marriott Tribute hotel.

“The caliber of this type of hotel shouldn’t be taken lightly for what the development will bring to this downtown area. It will explode in economic development around these blocks… we already have a beautiful downtown, this hotel is just going to amplify what we already have.”

John Moore, Director of Commercial Development and Community Affairs

While plans and renderings have not yet been finalized, the hotel is expected to feature around 100 rooms, an in-house restaurant and a rooftop bar.

According to Moore, the agreement with the developer includes the city paying $4.5 million over a three-year period. That includes $1.5 million at each stage including:

  • Approval of design
  • Groundbreaking
  • Doors opening

Redevelopment in downtown Gadsden

The city hopes this can be another piece of the puzzle when it comes to revitalizing the downtown district.

“It’s the simple principle of you have to build a city up before you build it out. It has to bubble over from the center. You have to have a lively and vibrant city center in order to expect to see the rest of your city thrive.”

Jason Wilson, Gadsden City Council
