1. A $40M Redevelopment of The Frank Nelson Building

Orchestra Partners recently launched a $40M redevelopment of the historic Frank Nelson Building in downtown Birmingham. Although the prominent Birmingham development firm originally planned to redevelop the building for office space, they recently modified their plan to include eight floors of apartment units.

Dubbed “The Frank”, the historic building will eventually offer:

180 studio and one-bedroom apartments, ranging between 400 and 600 square-feet
Common areas & amenities, such as a large indoor courtyard and an expansive rooftop
Retail & restaurant space, including UPS, Trattoria Zaza and a future second restaurant

The 10-story Frank Nelson Building is a significant part of the Birmingham skyline—in fact, it’s considered one of Birmingham’s first skyscrapers. Built in 1903, the Frank Nelson Building originally served as the home for the First National Bank of Birmingham.

2. A $15M addition to James Hardie Building Products, Inc.

James Hardie Building Products, a leading global producer of external and internal siding for home projects, is planning a massive expansion to their facility in Prattville, Alabama. The current facility was initially opened in Prattville in 2017, on a 103-acre plot of land in Prattville’s South Industrial Park. Now, the company is planning to expand their operations.

The $15M project will consist of a new 173,320 square-foot building at the James Hardie campus in the South Industrial Park. The majority of the new building will be used as a “finish line” for production, while the remaining space will be utilized as a warehouse.

Involved in the project are general contractor Dunn Building Company and architect & engineer Bibb Engineers, Architects and Constructors.
