This past week, 10 new building permits were issued across the state for construction projects exceeding $1 million. Of these, four are in Cullman, three are in the Birmingham metro and two are in Tuscaloosa.

Walmart renovations in Cullman

One of the more expensive building permits issued this past week was a $3.4 million permit for renovations to the Walmart Supercenter in Cullman. These upgrades are part of the company’s broader plan to remodel over 650 stores nationwide in 2025.

The renovations include:

New signage
Expanded product displays
Wider selection of items.
Updated pharmacy areas with wider aisles
Private pharmacy screening rooms
Dedicated pharmacy checkout spaces
