Boykin Donahue Campus in Auburn among new high-dollar building permits

This past week, 25 new building permits were issued in Alabama for construction projects exceeding $1 million. The majority of these permits are for projects in the Birmingham and Huntsville metros.

However, one of the largest projects receiving building permits is for a community center in Auburn. Here’s more:

Boykin Donahue Campus center

Building Permits
The Boykin Donahue Campus is a $31 million project in Auburn. (City of Auburn)

The Boykin Donahue Campus project redevelops the previous Public Works and Environmental Services site to be a new recreation and cultural resource center adjacent to the Boykin Community Center campus.

This is a $31 million project with W.W. Compton Contractor, LLC as the lead contractor. The project includes:

  • A public library branch
  • A cultural arts center
  • Auburn’s first splash pad
  • Walking trails
  • Green space

As part of this project, the City’s Recycling Drop Off Center will be relocated to the former site of the City’s Fleet Maintenance operation on North Donahue Drive.

The project is expected to be completed in July of 2026.
