Why should you move to Mobile? Pure economics and science. Forbes recently announced their top 15 cheapest places to live with the best weather and we’re proud to say that two Alabama cities have made the list. Keep reading to see why we’re proud to make the cut.

Wait, how do they know this?

This was actually calculated with a fair amount of consideration. To calculate the affordability of a city, Forbes cited a recent study from PropertyShark that analyzed the numbers from cities with at least 150,000 in population.

In order to even be considered for the list, residents could not pay more than 30% of their monthly income on a home payment, according to the average income level. For the latter half of the equation, PropertyShark calculated the amount of days out of the year with clear skies, days with extreme temperatures (considered above 90º or below 32º) and finally, the number of rainy or windy days.

Boom! You have your list. Do you want to know what all of these cities have in common? They’re all located in the South or Southeast region.

“Americans looking for both mild climates and affordable homes will mostly find options in the humid, subtropical regions of the South and the Southeast.”

Mobile has a lot to offer in terms of career growth, entertainment and their rich history as Alabama’s port city.

Their known for their lively downtown areas with many options to eat, shop local and indulge in Southern culture. The port also provides many job opportunities and because it’s located right off the Gulf of Mexico, provides a temperate, humid climate. Their neighbors in Baldwin County have experienced exponential growth over the last ten years as the seventh fastest growing metropolitan area in the country and the fastest growing county in the state (WKRG). Will Mobile be next?

If you’re looking to move to Mobile, it might be a smart financial move with a lower cost of living. With more remote positions creating career independence, why not look for a change? Your wallet will thank you. Your hair? Not so much.

Birmingham came in at #15 on Forbes’ list. While we know that Birmingham ranks a little more on the expensive side, we’re not surprised it made the list. With new developments, a thriving foodie scene and The World Games 2022 coming to Birmingham, it’s getting a lot of attention.

We’re excited for continued growth all across the state and will forever be proud of what our cities have to offer.
