1. Opelika
As the sister town to Auburn—AKA the loveliest village—Opelika has captured the hearts of Southern Living from its unique bakeries to the stunning murals. For the small-town foodie, you’ll love the wide variety of local restaurants serving up Southern classics such as the buttermilk pancakes from Zazu Gastropub.

2. Fairhope
If you’re looking for one of the most picturesque Alabama towns, then Fairhope should be your next stop. Southern Living appreciates the beauty of impressive Fairhope’s flora, including the streets lined with live oaks draped in Spanish moss to bright.
This isn’t the first time Southern Living has recognized Fairhope for its beauty. Earlier this year, Fairhope ranked third best small Alabama town.

3. Fort Payne

4. Guntersville
The adventures you’ll make at Lake Guntersville is reason enough to classify this town as charming. Guntersville is number seven for its miles of shoreline and walkable downtown with multiple places to shop.
Guntersville was also named the best lake town in Alabama for the food, the ziplining and the fishing.

5. Mentone
