19 new million-dollar-plus construction permits approved in Alabama, June 27

We’ve got the inside scoop on 19 new million-dollar-plus construction permits awarded to contractors in Alabama last week, including a massive project from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Replacement of Spain Rehabilitation Center (Birmingham)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is moving forward on a new inpatient rehabilitation facility to replace the institution’s aging Spain Rehabilitation Center. Located on 7th Avenue South in Birmingham, the new facility will include:

  • 350,000-square-feet of space across 11 stories
  •  78 rehabilitation beds
  • 28 acute care beds
  • State-of-the-art technology for comprehensive rehabilitation care

Involved in the project is architect Gresham Smith and general contractor Hoar Construction, LLC. The new UAB Spain Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital is slated to open in 2025.
