This past week saw the approval of 22 new building permits in Alabama for projects exceeding $1 million, with six projects taking place in Auburn, and nine projects in North Alabama.

The most expensive project this past week was for an apartment complex in Tuscaloosa, dubbed Life on 4th. Here’s what we know:

Life on 4th was approved by the Tuscaloosa City Council last fall, amid some controversy. However, the project is moving forward, as the $18 million permit was issued last week.

Here’s what we know about this project:

  • The complex will include more than 14,000 square feet of commercial or office space on its first floor.
  • Developers will build 190 bedrooms in 90 units and will feature above-ground and underground parking for tenants.
  • The concept includes studios and one, two, and three-bedroom units that are expected to lease from $900 to $2,550 per month, depending on the unit layout.
  • Southeastern Construction Partners is listed as the lead contractor.
