This week, 20 building permits were issued building projects in Alabama exceeding $1 million. Of these, 14 are for projects in North Alabama, while four are in Auburn.

Here’s what we know about these new building projects in Alabama:

Southwire moves forward with expansion in Florence

As part of its ongoing modernization efforts, Southwire — a leading producer of industrial products, cable and wire — announced a few weeks ago an expansion at its campus in Florence. The expansion is expected to increase production capacity by 30% and create approximately 120 jobs.

The building permit for this project was approved this past week for lead contractor Craig Construction. Here are a few details on this project:

The project is listed at $4.5 million.
The 300,000 square foot campus has grown over time, and this expansion will include approximately 340,000 square feet of added space for new equipment.
The project will also include renovating the existing building to enhance the team member experience, including locker rooms, training space and an outdoor picnic and activity area.
These investments and upgrades will effectively streamline Southwire’s commercial and residential building wire efforts, complement existing products and emphasize the facility’s culture and labor pool.
Construction should be completed in 2025.
