Publix distribution center in Jefferson County among new $1M+ building permits

Publix has expanded throughout Alabama, which made expansion at its Jefferson County distribution center necessary. (Ron Cogswell, licensed under CC BY 2.0)

This past week, 21 new building permits were issued across the state for construction projects exceeding $1 million. These permits were for projects in Auburn, Decatur, Huntsville and the Birmingham metro.

One of the priciest of these permits is for the expansion of the Publix Supermarkets distribution center in McCalla. The $11 million permit is part of an expansion project that includes a new fleet maintenance facility for the center, located at 7200 Jefferson Metropolitan Parkway.

The project is expected to be completed by summer of 2027.
